Brain Reflection Log

Brain Log

What? I learned many new things this week. First, I really don’t know all that much about the brain and how it functions. It was interesting in the groups to hear all about the different parts and how they really do interactive with each other. It was good to learn that if something did happen to me and my brain gets damage, there is a chance that I can teach myself to work in a different ways. The roles of the brain are interesting. I found that the myelination is the fatty part around the neurons. This fatty part is important, unlike how the world sees anything is fatty is bad. I also learned that when children are talking to themselves, they are not being annoying. What is really going on, they are learning to guide and direct their own behaviors. I found that very important to know and understand. As the children grow older, they will start thinking inside their head, which is called inner speech.

So What? What I found important to know as a future teacher is how the brain works and how children process their thoughts. If I can start to understand how children think a little bit, then I will be able to better help them learn. This in included in the syllabus because it is part of the brain, which is what psychology is.

Now What? I think I will use the information I have learned to better understand my future students and the reasons of why they act the way they do sometimes. The skill I feel I really do need to learn the most about is Piaget’s stages of Cognitive Development. In reality, I do need to learn more about all the parts of the brain.
