What? I learned about Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development. There are eight stages to Erikson development. The one I plan on paying most attention to is industry versus inferiority. Kohlberg had three levels and six stages to moral development. The levels are preconventional, conventional, and postconventional morality. In conventional morality are two stages that are important for me to keep in mind, good boy and good girl, and law and order. Children love to help in the law and order stage. The marshmallow test was a very interesting in learning about it. To know that as children learn to wait and control the need to get something now, they will be able to go further in life. That is according to the people who did this test.
So What? What I found important from the class topic was the two developmental changes there are. The social according to Erikson and Moral according to Kohlberg. By me knowing and understanding these two development will help to understand where me future students will be at when they are in my class. These topics were included in the syllabus to help me learn more about how my students will be like in my future class and their developmental changes they can be in.
Now What? Erikson’s stage of psychosocial development is something I want to apply to the classroom. The industry versus inferiority is the stage I will be dealing with the most. I need to praise a student when they do good on their work. This way they will feel industry by having praised and will continue on working tell the work is done. At the same time, I also need to keep in mind to give everyone some kind of praise and not ridiculed their work but help them do better. Doing this will only lead to inferiority, and that’s not good.
